The AIA procedure in detail
The AIA requires the exporter or party of export to first submit a written notification to the Competent National Authority (CNA) in the country of import prior to the first intentional introduction of the LMO as laid out in Article 8 (Notification). The country of export is also mandated to ensure that a legal requirement for accuracy of information contained in the notification is in place.
On receipt of the notification, the country of import is then required to check the application for completeness and compliance to its requirements and acknowledge it in writing within thirty (30) days. Article 9 (Acknowledgement of Receipt of Notification) also lays out other requirements for the acknowledgement.
